About Deborah Marie Zimmel
Deborah Marie Zimmel was known by all as a kindred spirit; who cherished her husband, daughters and the many communities she was so much a part of. She touched so many lives in profound ways. Her smile, thoughtfulness and unique ability to care so intimately for others were her unique and special gifts.
Deborah was a loving mother, wife and friend and was sadly diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in December 2012. Her family and friends saw her fight the disease over two years and on September 26th, 2015, she passed away from Leptomenningeal Carcinomatosis. Deborah’s life was characterized by her caring and hospitable nature for anyone in need, thus the Hummingbird being selected as the slogan for the Deborah Zimmel Triple Negative Breast Cancer Fund. Symbolically, hummingbirds are known to hover over all and aspire to savour each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. Like Deborah, the hummingbirds grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.
Deborah’s loving husband and daughters established the Deborah Zimmel Triple Negative Breast Cancer Fund. administered by the Calgary Foundation, in hopes of providing help to those suffering from Triple Negative Breast Cancer. But we cannot do it alone - we need your help in making this vision a reality.
